THE PINK HOTEL

The Pink Hotel, Anna Stothard’s stunning second novel after the critical and commercial success of Isabel and Rocco, is a tale about finding love in the most unlikely of places.

A seventeen-year-old London girl flies to Los Angeles for the funeral of her mother Lily, from whom she had been separated in her childhood. After stealing a suitcase of letters, clothes and photographs from her mum’s bedroom at the top of a hotel on Venice Beach, the girl spends her summer travelling around Los Angeles returning love letters and photographs to the men who had known her mother. As she discovers more about Mandy’s past and tries to re-enact her life, she comes to question the foundations of her own personality.

Chinese Summary/

(XMM & Iris)

Anna Paquin, perhaps better known as Sookie Stookhouse from True Blood, and partner, Stephen Moyer (who plays Sookie’s vampire ex, Bill Compton) have created their own film production company, CASM Films.

Review:
“The second novel is the real test of a young writer, and this one is astonishingly good … Stothard’s writing is accomplished and very engaging.”---Kate Saunders, The Times

“Matters of personal identity underlie an exhilarating ride through LA’s seamier side in the company of a hard-bitten yet highly engaging protagonist.”---Ross Gilfillan, The Mail

“A poignant novel about identity, and a love/hate letter to LA.”---Glamour Magazine

“An elegant noirish mystery.”---Amanda Craig, The Independent

“A gently transgressive, transatlantic quest that conjures up both the languid heat of LA and the confusions of a young woman on the cusp.”---The Lady

“A slow burn classic in the making.”---Anne Brook, Vulpes Libris

“Anna Stothard’s descriptions are almost like a painting – the reader finds themselves slap bang in the middle of the America that is rarely shown in film or novels.”---Anne Cater, NewBooks

“Anna Stothard’s dark debut Isabel and Rocco, written while the author was still at school, was a McEwan-esque tale about two teenage siblings left to fend for themselves. Her second novel, set amongst the naval- gazers of California, proves no less precocious.”---Emma Hagestadt, The Independent
