English Summary/英文概要： Lilli Niles receives a phone call from her oldest sister Bea Marsh—with whom Lilli has never gotten along—informing her that Bea’s husband Randall has died. Bea invites Lilli to the funeral. Lilli, who hasn’t been home in over fifty years, finds this request odd. Aware that she and her sister are getting on in years, Lilli decides to make the journey home. Lilli harbors guilty secrets that she wants absolved before she dies.
Lilli finds her seafront childhood home (in which Bea still lives) nearly untouched since the day she left: the same faded stenciling decorates the kitchen wall, the same furniture stands in the living room, the same rugs cover the floors. Outside, however, weeds chok their Mother’s once lush gardens, the lawn has nearly disappeared, and wisteria engulfs the house. Lilli quickly realizes that her sister is unfit to live alone and sets about convincing her to move into assisted living.
Bea has other plans: have Lilli move back home. Bea, frail and bent, still has plenty of fight.
As this conflict unfurls, we learn of their youngest sister’s death; their Mother’s suicide, both of which Lilli blames herself for; and of Randall’s seduction of Lilli. The tryst resulted in the clandestine birth of a daughter, whom Lilli gave up. Bea never knew about either the assignation or the child. Or did she?
After a final, heated argument, with Bea staunchly refusing to leave her home, Lilli storms out, only to find herself, once again, burdened with guilt. Concerned about Bea, Lilli returns to find that Bea has had an accident. Lilli learns what it means to be part of a family and that it is sometimes better to share secrets than to keep them.

因比雅在電話中的焦急聲，使得莉莉決定回一趟老家，回去看那在美國麻州的幽靜古宅，那個她小時候深愛的地方，去尋找她們曾經擁有但已經喪失的美好回憶。
回到家後，莉莉發現這個家在她離開後都沒有什麼改變，但是媽媽心愛的茂密草坪，現在卻變的亂七八糟，整座房子還被蔓延的紫藤花團團圍住。莉莉覺得比雅並不適合一個人住在這間房子裡，因此開始說服她搬到養老院去。但是比雅不想離開老家，她希望莉莉搬回家裡跟她一起住。
兩人日日爭論不休，也帶出她們年紀最小的妹妹和年邁母親死於非命的悲傷往事，其中包含兩人過去一直背負著極大的罪惡感….

About the Author/作者介绍： Katherine Britton teaches at Colby Sawyer College in central New Hampshire. She has a master’s degree in creative writing from Dartmouth College and lives in Vermont.
Katharine has a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from Dartmouth College. Her screenplay, Goodbye Don’t Mean Gone, was a Moondance Film Festival winner and a finalist in the New England Women in Film and Television contest. Katharine is a member of the Leagueof Vermont Writers and PEN New England. She teaches writing at Colby-Sawyer College, and is an instructor at The Writer’s Center.
