English Summary/英文概要： Lean Product Development: Make It Work is a compilation of the experiences of over 150 companies like Playworld Systems that have embraced the theories of lean product development and made them real. My goal is to give lean product development champions a tested framework for lean product development along with a selection of case studies and examples from a diverse set of companies to bring the concepts to life.
This book will help lean product developers, and those who are evaluating lean product development, take concrete actions that will bring them closer to their desired results. Most companies attempt lean product development because they want to get products out faster, or on a more predictable cycle. Case studies show exactly how companies like theirs have used lean to get faster and more predictable. They also show how lean practices first deliver speed. Then continued work combines with speed to deliver flexibility, which is the turning point for most companies when their product development capabilities dramatically increase, along with their market share and competitive advantage.
Unlike other published books about lean product development, this is not the story of one individual working inside a single company. This book leverages my deep connections with the global lean product development community to provide an integrated view of lean as it is practiced inside successful companies today. Examples, case studies and stories drawn from small, medium and large companies in a variety of industries support the concepts and provide opportunities for readers to see their own companies in the text.
The examples, case studies and stories are drawn from my personal connections with more than 500 active lean product developers. I met these individuals through my leadership of the Lean Product & Process Development Exchange, the Lean PD Benchmarking Study, the Lean Product Development Resource Center and my own consulting work. I have included a list of them in response to Question 5.
