About the Author/作者介绍： 布莱恩．福特（Brian J. Ford）为现代科普先驱之一。他是欧盟科学记者协会第一任英籍主席，该组织设于布鲁塞尔。他为BBC主持《今日科学》(Science Now)，同时也主持不少电视节目。福特本身研究著作颇丰，论文常见于《自然》(Nature)、《研究》(La Recherche)、《Medical News》及《British Medical Journal》等期刊。他的研究与论点往往造成广泛的影响，并获许多不同领域的科学家的支持。福特最近获颁柯勒教授奖(Professor August Kohler medal)，以表彰他在科学研究上的优异成就。他其它的著作包括曾获奖的《Image of Science》、畅销书《First Encyclopedia of Science》，以及《BSE: The Facts》。
