English Summary/英文概要： Is there any greater danger than that of trying to probe the thoughts and acts of a man without conscience? This is the question sixteen-year old Antoine will have to face. When his parents die, he is entrusted to his grandparents. But Antoine cannot bear the cramped life he is leading with them. He therefore sees the arrival of Ismail, a mysterious stranger who claims to be his paternal uncle, as a blessing. Ismail tells Antoine his father’s childhood in Albania and their escape to Western Europe. Antoine decides to go along to live with him near Annecy, in the French Alps.
Antoine soon finds out that he is living with an implacable, destructive and Machiavellian man – certainly not the average businessman he claims to be. The terror he provokes in those around him is proof enough. Since Antoine has nowhere to go, he opts to try and understand who this man is and what drives him, at the risk being confronted with his fears and adopting his lust for violence.
The portrait of a man who experiences nothing but pleasure or indifference when causing pain. We encounter them all the time them without recognizing: their faces are human.
