WILD ABANDON

Growing up on a self sufficient, communal farm in Wales, siblings Kate and Albert have only ever known this alternative, isolated lifestyle. Their idealistic and charismatic father Don founded the commune 20 years ago along with their long suffering mother Freya and a few other dedicated and eccentric founder members. Shared passions for a sustainable, relaxed lifestyle initially brought the group together, fuelled by Don’s passionate leadership. But in recent years community life at the farm is falling apart, reflected in the dwindling membership and the decline of Don and Freya’s marriage.

After years of home education on diverse topics ranging from the evils of advertising, to the mechanics of time travel, Albert and Kate are now keen to escape their restricted lifestyles. For years they have been forced to indulge their parents’ whims, share freezing showers and integrate with crazy volunteers from around the globe. Since starting at the local college, 17 year-old Kate has become fascinated and repelled in equal parts by suburban life, basing her preconceptions on the dark suburbia she knows only from fiction and cinema. She decides to run away from the commune to the house of her new boyfriend, keen to uncover the seemingly sinister mysteries of suburbia for herself. Meanwhile, the 11 year-old Albert (everyone’s favourite character) is convinced that the end of the world is approaching and he begins his preparations for the final days of 2012.

Don strives desperately to modernise his commune and take it into the modern age while distracting himself from his failed marriage. But how will Don succeed in reuniting the commune if he can’t even reignite his own relationship? The answer seems to be organising a huge rave which he hopes will bring everyone together again, unless Albert’s predictions for the future materialise on the night of this party...
