When he was young he was disciple of Gherardo da Cremona, the founder of the Translation School of Toledo, which was committed to the divulgation of Greek-Arab texts through the Christian West Europe. Because of this knowledge, Ignazio has a reputation as a necromancer. This novel is the first one in a trilogy about Ignazio da Toledo’s adventures.
The Year of Our Lord 1205. Father Vivïen de Narbonne is being chased by a group of knights wearing strange masks. The monk has a precious book and, trying to escape from these men, he falls down in a ravine. Thirteen years later, after a period of exile in the Holy Land, Ignazio da Toledo is summoned to Venice by a wealthy patrician, to carry out a mission. He is to recover an extremely rare book entitled UTER VENTORUM, the same book that Vivien had owned. The manuscript in question is said to contain precepts deriving from Chaldaean and Persian talismanic culture and apparently enables the reader to call forth angels and partake of their wisdom.. Ignazio sets out in search of the book with the help of Willalme de Béziers, a French warrior, and Uberto, a young lay brother. According to the information they have been given, the book is preserved in the Sagra di San Michele, near Turin. But at the Sagra di San Michele, instead of finding the book, Ignazio stumbles across a mystery; the UTER VENTORUM has been split up into four parts, which have been hidden in Languedoc and Castille. They run also into the knights that pursued Father Vivïen: thay are interested in this book, too, and they are ready to kill for it. They belong to the Secret Tribunal of Saint-Vehme, founded by Carlo Magno. Their leader is Dominus, the Red Mask. His curiosity to discover their content spurs him on to continue his quest, despite the danger. Will he be able to solve all the puzzles that the book contains and to summon up the angels and their wisdom?

About the Author/作者介绍： Marcello Simoni was born in Comacchio in 1975. Having taken a degree in literature at the university of Ferrara, he worked as an archaeologist, a cataloguer of cultural objects and a librarian. After publishing articles on etruscology and archaeology in local journals, he turned to research on the middle ages. His debut novel, the first of a trilogy, was published in Spain in May 2010 by Algaida editores. Newton Compton will publish the Italian edition in Autumn 2011. Besides writing fiction, Marcello Simoni organizes cultural and literary events.
