English Summary/英文概要： This insightful book explores the economic conditions and policy response of four major East Asian economies in the wake of the 2008 global economic crisis. Written by a distinguished group of Asian social scientists, this study summarizes and synthesizes the economic impacts of the crisis on individual countries and their policy response over the past few years, and in particular carefully scrutinizes the immediate and remote causes of the crisis. Chinese Summary/中文概要： 東亞金融危機引起人們對於東南亞經濟增長模式的再次思考。有人認為“東南亞經濟增長模式已是明日黃花”。東南亞國家經濟增長的重要特徵，就是出口導向戰略，通過大規模引進外資，充分利用本地區廉價勞動力，大力發展出口產業，以帶動整個經濟的起飛。通過這種增長模式，東南亞國家實現了經濟起飛，但是經過十幾年或近二十年的高速增長，各種要素條件已經發生了變化，必須實行增長模式的轉化。
危機發生的根本原因當然是由於傳統增長模式收到挑戰，依靠非熟練勞動力的出口導向產業競爭力降低，而國內經濟過熱和國際收支困難，加上國際資本大肆投機，火上澆油，終於引發了這場金融危機。
