English Summary/英文概要: Crossbones Yard is a tense metropolitan thriller, set in contemporary London. The narrator, thirty-two year old psychologist Alice Quentin lives in a glamorous neighbourhood close to Tower Bridge, but her life is unravelling. Memories of her father’s violence still trouble her, and her drug-addicted brother Will lives in a van, parked outside her apartment building. Alice works at Guy’s Hospital, and she believes that if she works hard she can keep her fears under control, but she is terrified of lifts and confined spaces. One night while out running she finds a girl’s body at Crossbones Yard, a deconsecrated prostitutes’ graveyard in Southwark. Building a profile of the killer, she discovers that the style of the murder is identical to those carried out by Ray and Marie Benson seven years before. The Bensons were sadistic killers who tortured their victims before burying their bodies in the grounds of their property The killer has insider knowledge of the Bensons’ crimes, and Alice is forced to visit Marie Benson, Britain’s most notorious female killer, in Rampton Psychiatric Hospital.
