English Summary/英文概要： A Killing of Angels is the sequel to Crossbones Yard, the second thriller in the Alice Quentin series. London is experiencing the hottest June on record, and 33 year old psychologist Alice is struggling to pay her mortgage. Government cuts are hitting her department at Guy’s hospital, and her unpredictable brother Will has moved into her riverside apartment. Will is struggling to overcome his drug addiction, and the physical pain of learning to walk again after breaking both of his legs. Alice is receiving counselling to help her cope better with intimacy and she is in training for the London marathon. Every time she goes for a run she notices that the city is struggling. Shops are boarded up and businesses are folding. Flowers and trees are dying in the city’s sweltering heat.
By contrast The Angel Group is thriving. The investment bank in Angel Court at the heart of London’s financial district prides itself on its charitable work, but when one of its six senior partners is pushed under a tube train in the rush hour, their heaven seems threatened. Alice comes home late from a meeting about departmental cuts to a flooded kitchen, and discovers the body of a second angel in the upstairs penthouse. His body is covered with the same used American dollar notes that were found in the pockets of the first victim.
Soon DCI Burns is begging Alice to work with him again, to help him build a profile of the killer. Reluctantly, Alice agrees. A third partner of the Angel Group dies in his car when an explosive device is detonated outside his home in Hampstead, and it’s clear that someone is determined to kill all of the six founding angels. Nicole Morgan, the sole female partner, is determined not to be next. She has built a reputation as a superwoman, balancing huge financial success with motherhood and marriage. But despite her bodyguards and DCI Burns’ efforts to protect her, someone attacks her, leaving her fighting for her life with knife wounds to her throat.

About the Author/作者介绍： Kate Rhodes was born in London. She has taught English at universities in Britain and the United States, and now writes full-time.
Kate is the author of two collections of poetry, Reversal and The Alice Trap. She has been awarded English Speaking Union and Hawthornden Fellowships for poetry, and shortlisted for a number of other prestigious prizes, including the Bridport and Forward Prizes.Her first novel, CROSSBONES YARD, was published in June 2012.
