In the further adventures of Dirk Pitt, Cussler’s middle-aged action hero foils one nefarious conspiracy and solves a mystery. Qin Shang, a smuggler of illegal immigrants, links the two stories. Pitt wouldn’t be the fabulous Pitt if he didn’t ultimately fight Qin one on one (which he does), and that battle caps a series of wild fights, each one ever more theatrical as Pitt closes in on Qin’s far-flung activities. It didn’t have to turn out that way--all Pitt wants is a relaxing lakeside vacation. When he notices bugs in his cabin, Pitt obtains exotic equipment and weapons from his government colleagues with which to surveil Qin’s nearby complex. After discovering some deadly activities and defeating the complex’s occupants in ninja-style combat, Dirk is sent on the next mission: discovering what Qin plans for the retired ocean liner United States and why he built a seaport in Louisiana. Joined by cheerful sidekick Al Giordino, the usual Pitt parade follows: underwater scraps, a surface shootout with a Chinese destroyer, and a battle in bayou country, from all of which Pitt emerges victorious, naturally. The final showdown on the bottom of a "great lake" typifies the zany nautical-martial scenes that Cussler purveys and millions consume. About the Author/作者介绍： Clive Cussler grew up in Alhambra, California. In addition to being the Chairman of NUMA(www.numa.net), Cussler is also a fellow in both the Explorers Club of New York and the Royal Geographic Society in London. He has been honored with the Lowell Thomas Award for outstanding underwater exploration. Cussler has been married to his wife, Barbara Knight, for more than 44 years. They have three children, two grandchildren, and divide their time between the mountains of Colorado and the deserts of Arizona.
