English Summary/英文概要： At the beginning of the book, Hilja meets David in Montemassi, Italy. Someone picked up David’s trail in Spain, and he has decided on a change of scenery in this peaceful, little village in southern Tuscany. David actually has a reason for his choice of location, but it is not revealed to Hilja at this point. Everything seems to be good, until David suddenly disappears without a trace. He has not been able to explain to Hilja who is after him, and this of course causes difficulties because Hilja is furious that David does not trust her completely.Hilja has to find work and soon manages to when her former boss, Monika von Hertzen, returns to Finland from Mozambique. Hilja tries to forget David, and when Monica’s restaurant business isn’t taking off like it should, there is need for a bodyguard again. Our old friend from Part I, Juri Trankov, the illegitimate son of Valentin Paskevitch, is threatening Monica’s business.
The reason for David’s departure is revealed as the book proceeds. David and Gintar turn out to have a son, who is used to blackmail David, keeping him from his greatest aspirations.
In the end, Hilja hears from Laitio that Keijo Suurluoto most likely killed her uncle Jari. Evidently Suurluoto had escaped from prison while Hilja was studying in New York.
In Part II, Laitio realizes that there are situations that the Finnish Police simply don’t have any control over. But Laitio is willing to risk his own life, even for those who are not his own flesh and blood.
