English Summary/英文概要： On a hot July morning in 1981 a young woman called Kate Rokesmith is strangled while strolling with her two-year-old son on the shoreline of the River Thames at Hammersmith. Her murderer is not found. In 2007 a man called Jack Harmon sets out to find out the truth. Only much later does it emerge that Jack is the son of the dead woman: the only witness to the murder. Jack links up with Stella, the daughter of the detective who led the investigation 24 years ago, to find out who killed Kate Rokesmith. But these two interesting outsiders make an uneasy team and soon, like Stella, readers don’t know whom of the cast of characters to trust or what to expect in a story that keeps us anxiously guessing to the end.

Lesley Thomson’s first thriller, Seven Miles from Sydney, was set in Australia where she lived and worked in her early twenties. In 2007 Lesley’s second thriller was published: A Kind of Vanishing won The People’s Book Prize For Fiction in 2010. She has just completed The Detective’s Daughter. Lesley teaches on the Creative Writing MA at West Dean College, Chichester. She lives in East Sussex.
