THE SON-IN-LAW
Book ID/图书代码: 05430011B49814
English Summary/英文概要: On a sharp winter’s morning, a man turns his back on prison. Joseph Scott has served his term. He’s lost almost everything: his career, his wife, the future he’d envisaged. All he has left are his three children.
Hannah has feared this day for almost four years - ever since Joseph Scott murdered her daughter Zoe. She and her husband have brought up the three children and kept alive the memory of their vibrant, talented mother.
Donald knows that sooner or later he must face his daughter’s killer. He mourns Zoe still, but his life has been given meaning by his grandchildren. Now though, he faces a new enemy; for the moment it’s his secret but in the end it will change all their lives and colour their decisions. The future is not what it seemed.
Scarlet is fourteen, and more than a sister to her little brothers. She remembers her mother’s crazy moods and her father’s despair; but they were a happy family on the good days. She saw her mum die and relives the moment every day.
Joseph is allowed contact by the court and, supervised initially, he painfully rebuilds a fragile relationship with his children. Eventually he applies to have them returned to him permanently. The children’s guardian and family therapists cannot agree on the right course. As the case draws towards judgement day, battle lines bristle with weaponry on each side.
Scarlet knows that whatever decision is made, it will be the wrong one. Her fragile world and that of her brothers is on the brink of shattering around them. If the nightmare is ever going to end, she has to take the law into her own hands. And she has a plan.
