The events are carefully stage-managed, the symbol of the Olympic rings created, the flame carried from Greece all the way to the capital of Germany, and an air of mysticism surrounds the stadia. German athletes have trained full-time to ensure that ‘Aryans’ take all the top honours. Unfortunately, the African-American Jesse Owens spoils their plan, winning four gold medals and breaking eleven Olympic records. Hitler refuses to place the medals around Owens’s neck, and vows there and then to develop some means of wiping negroes and other ‘inferior’ races from the face of the earth.

In a secret Nazi underground laboratory near the Czech border, Nazi scientists search for something that will do what Hitler wants, and more, as the tide of the Second World War sweeps back and forth across Europe. They think they’ve finally succeeded but, as the Russian army finally rolls forward, they’re forced to flee to the west, blowing down the entrance to the laboratory and abandoning their work.
