Michael Horton is presently the Science Coordinator for the Riverside County Office of Education in Southern California. He has also been the Science Coordinator for the Orange County Department of Education and taught chemistry, physics, and computer repair for 11 years in Perris and Temecula.
Michael’s philosophy on teaching is, "Don’t teach, inspire students to learn." This involves engaging projects, hands-on activities, exciting homework (like take-home labs), practical applications, and displaying a passion for the subject being taught. The last four years of his career, he collected data to show that such an approach to teaching could create dramatic improvements in student learning (as evidenced by test scores, enrollment, and enthusiasm) even at a struggling school with very diverse demographics.
