THE STONE THROWER
Book ID/图书代码: 03240312B52934
English Summary/英文概要: • Second collection of short stories from winner of the Arts Foundation Fellowship in the Short Story
• Features Sunday Times EFG Prize shortlisted story‘Fewer Things. National review coverage guaranteed.
• Stories bound together by a central, unifying theme: namely the experience of caring for, and bringing up, a child of special needs and/or of a particular physical vulnerability
• Leading exponent of steam-punk absurdismIntelligent clothing, superhero dictators, contagion-carrying computer games, cross-species reproduction… Welcome to the surreal and startling world of Adam Marek; a menagerie of futuristic technology, animistic concerns and defunct iconography – a place where the absurd and the mundane make unlikely, and surprisingly agreeable, bedfellows.Unlike Marek’s first collection, the acclaimed Instruction Manual for Swallowing, these stories are strung together with a single, unifying concern: the theme of parental anxiety over a particularly vulnerable child. Whether setting his stories in alternative versions of the future or the past, or rooting them entirely in the all-too-real, they mark a growing maturity and expansion of scope and ambition for one of the UK’s most exciting young writers.
