About Stanisław Lem
Stanis ław Lem has been described as the most widely read science fiction writer in the world (by Theodore Sturgeon, 1976). His novel Solaris has been adapted for film three times (most recently by Steven Soderberg and starring George Clooney; most famously by Andrei Tarkovsky), and ‘The Futurology Congress’ – itself in the process of being filmed – was a huge influence on the Matrix films. Lem’s blend of comedy and science fiction has influenced everyone from Douglas Adams to the writers of Red Dwarf, individual stories such as ‘The Seventh Sally’have been credited as the inspiration for The Sims computer game.
