Hannah Weyer is an award winning documentary filmmaker and screenwriter in New York City. Her films have screened at MoMA, Sundance, and the New York Film Festival. They have won numerous recognitions, including placement on YALSA’S top ten DVD list of 2003. Her documentaries aired on PBS as part of the POV-American Documentary series and her screen writing credits include work that has premiered on HBO, including Life Support, starring Queen Latifah. An advocate for youth, Hannah has volunteered at The Door, Scenarios USA, and Reel Works, where she works with teens in the media arts. Hannah met Anna Simpson while working on the independent film, Our Song. At the time, Anna was 14 years old, untrained as an actress and due to give birth a month before shooting began, but after four call-backs, she was cast to play one of the lead roles in the award-winning movie. The charm, grit, dreaminess and honesty that landed Anna the role are the same qualities that have inspired On the Come Up as well as the life long friendship between these two women.
Anna Simpson is now 26-years-old. She lives in the Bronx with her daughter, Chasity, who attends the Pelham Academy, a performing arts middle school in the Bronx. Anna has performed at various live singing events, including a half-time performance for the NJ Nets and the Bronx Battered Women’s Shelter. She recently received her degree in Automotive Technology from TCI (College of Technology).
