A qualified social worker by background, he has held senior posts in mental health and social care in the health sector, local authorities and central government. He has worked in the field of Equalities and Mental Health nationally. He was involved in developing the equalities elements of the national mental health strategy and is co-editor of the Journal of Ethnicity and Inequalities in Health and Social Care. He is also the author of Working with Ethnicity, Race and Culture in Mental Health: A Handbook for Practitioners, Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
