English Summary/英文概要： Ilaria, Iki, Takelin, Katù and Allison are five girls between ten and fifteen who didn’t know each other. And didn’t even want to meet, to tell you the truth. They are very different from one another, but all live in Italy, except for Allison, who is only visiting the country. They come from the five continents of our planet. Grandma Adelina gathers them and with a smart trick she manages to make them start a journey, after going through the Alchemical Door in Piazza Vittorio’s gardens in Rome. Only five special girls like them can find this magical door and only to them can the guardian, a unicorn, grant passage to their first stop: mysterious Morocco.
From Morocco they start an endless journey looking for the powerful and malicious Carboni and a monstrous creature, knowing, as revealed in a prediction, that one of them will betray the others.
Once they get to Guatemala the Chinese girl, Ichi, is abducted. The Ves look for her around lakes and volcanoes and in the end they are taken captive by Carboni himself.
The truth is not what it looks and the key to everything could be a salamander…

In 2005 he won the Calvino prize with his first novel The First Who Smiles, published in 2006 by Einaudi, the current publisher of his adult’s fiction books. Ferro has written for the cinema, the stage and television. He created the tv series I Soliti Idioti (The Same Old Idiots) with Francesco Mandelli and Fabrizio Biggio, and he is the only author who doesn’t star in the show. Vanity Ves is his debuting title for children.
