English Summary/英文概要： Gender Bender: men, women and evolutionary psychologists sets out to show that male and female minds do not emerge from different planets and that our emotional and intellectual capacities are molded more by culture than biology. It argues that many supposedly innate gender differences have, in fact, been invented or exaggerated by academics calling themselves ‘‘evolutionary psychologists’.

It breaks new ground in several areas, offering a fresh take on debates that have raged from university lecture halls to dinner tables. About the Author/作者介绍： Gavin Evans在伦敦出生，在开普敦长大。曾学习经济历史和法学，并获得了政治学博士学位。曾在报纸、新闻机构担任记者、通讯员，后成为自由撰稿人、广播人和作家。著有多部运动传记、回忆录等各类主题的图书。目前正在写作两本分别关于基因和性别、人种科学的作品。

Gavin Evans was born in London but grew up mainly in Cape Town. After a year studying in Texas, he returned to South Africa to become intensely involved in the anti-apartheid struggle in various capacities. Along the way he studied economic history and law before completing a PhD in political studies. He worked as a journalist for several South African newspapers and as a foreign correspondent for a Rome-based news agency.
He returned to London with his wife and first daughter in 1993, initially working as a freelance journalist (for The Guardian, Esquire, Men’s Health and several other publications), broadcaster and author. His five non-fiction books include two sporting biographies, a memoir, Dancing Shoes is Dead, and a coffee table book on boxing history, and he has contributed chapters to several other books.
Over the past decade he has lectured in the Culture and Media department at Birkbeck College, and at the London School of Journalism. He also writes obituaries for The Independent and others, broadcasts for the BBC World Service and has acquired a serious, long-distance running habit.
Gavin is currently working on two books on subjects that fascinate him – one on genes and gender and the other on race science.
