English Summary/英文概要： It’s been three weeks since the events of A Shimmer of Angels. Despite living with Kade, Ray can’t get Cam off her mind. Ray’s father is hurt during an attempt on his life, and Cam returns as her father’s Protector. Already distraught, Ray discovers her mother was also once committed to a mental hospital. Ray is convinced she is destined for a life of pain and suffering, made up worlds and crushes on boys who don’t exist. She turns to Kade, who pushes her toward Cam.
Ray and Cam allow themselves to get too close. Cam’s superior, a high-ranking angel named Elyon, finds them in an embrace. Elyon explains the history of Ray’s abilities. Years ago, there was another, who was believed to have angel sight. But she was not as strong as Ray, and forfeited her life, giving up her gift. Ray has little time to absorb the information before she is attacked. She unleashes a shockwave from her wings that saves her.
When Ray and Kade sneak into a concert to hide from a group of Fallen, one reveals himself to the entire crowd. Kade kills the dark angel. Stuck inside under Kade’s watch, Ray discovers her wings have healing powers. She sneaks out to heal her father, and runs into a detective who wants her for questioning. But there is a man whispering in the detective’s ear. Ray’s wings vibrate in warning. The wing vibration happens again when Ray finds a boy whispering in her sister’s ear. Ray feels it once more during a secret meeting with Cam, who confesses his love for her and begs her to run away with him. Freaked out, she runs from Cam, straight into Kade consorting with a Fallen. She accuses him of being a traitor and has to fight to get away from him.
With no one left to trust, Ray boards a bus to Arizona, her childhood home, to uncover the truth about her mother. She learns nothing, but finds Kade waiting for her at her mother’s grave. He tells her how he fell. During the revelation, Lucien, Lucifer’s son, reveals himself to Ray and Kade to confess he was the one following Ray, causing trouble in her life, and pretending to be Cam. He’d made a deal with Ray’s mother, gifted her with the angel sight so that she would one day use it to help eliminate the angels. But she didn’t keep her end of the deal and was murdered by Elyon. Ray’s mother was pregnant with Ray at the time, so when she died, her power transferred to Ray.
To pay for her mother’s betrayal, Lucien forces Ray into Hell, and Kade volunteers to go with her.
