About the Author/作者介绍： 詹姆 M. 布坎南（JamesM.Buchanan），1919.10.03—2013.01.09，1986年诺贝尔经济学奖获得者，以研究公共选择理论而闻名，因此获得诺贝尔经济学奖。
布坎南由于家境清贫，无法负担一流大学的学费，只好选择就读家乡的田纳西州立大学，并于1940年毕业，每日靠挤牛奶、工赚取学费，这也塑成他一生清晨4点即起，比别人多工作4个小时的毅力。经过数年努力，1941年取得田纳西大学硕士学位（M.S.）。
第二次世界大战时，被强迫派往纽约的海军战争学院，战后回归学术，于1948年获芝加哥大学博士学位。1983年受聘为弗吉尼亚州乔治梅森大学教授，布坎南在那里领导的公共选择理论学派还被人称为“政治经济学的弗吉尼亚学派”。
