LOST IN TRANSLATION: AN ILLUSTRATED COMPENDIUM OF UNTRANSLATABLE WORDS FROM AROUND THE WORLD(OLD TITLE: THERE’S A WORD FOR THAT)

Book ID/图书代码: 06840013B64992

English Summary/英文概要: There’s a Word for That is a collection of 50 artistic renderings of words that are untranslatable into English, with a short introduction by the artist.

Each ink illustration is based on one such word and includes the original word, the language it’s from, and a definition. The words and definitions are beautiful (such as “komorebi” which is the Japanese word that describes sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees) and funny (like the Hawaiian “pana po’o” which describes the act of scratching your head in order to remember something you’ve forgotten). The beautiful, simple illustrations bring the words to life.

There’s a Word for That was inspired by the overwhelming international response to an original post by the author on Maptia.com (http://goo.gl/Jvw1Cs). Having been picked up by hundreds of other sites, the post has now been viewed over 1.5 million times, and continues to circulate, generating enthusiastic comments from readers.

Chinese Summary/中文概要: 枝頭灑落的陽光? 冰玻璃杯的桌面水漬? 僅一字就能表達

連連看!請將左側字詞與右側解釋配對:

夏威夷用語:pana po’o 1. 樹葉縫隙篩落的日光
日文:komorebi(木漏れ日) 2.
