English Summary/英文概要： A biography of Sarah Aaronsohn, a vital leader of NILI, the ring of Jewish spies working for the British in World War I. Aaronsohn, along with her siblings and close friend formed and led the spy organization. Aaronsohn oversaw operations of the spy-ring and passed information to British agents offshore, and when her husband was traveling, she headed operations in Palestine. When the Ottomans intercepted one of Aaronsohn’ s messages in September of 1917, they arrested her. After four days of torture, she was able to kill herself with a pistol concealed under a tile in the bathroom. Perhaps most interestingly was Sarah Aaronsohn’s deeply intimate relationship with T.E. Lawrence - Lawrence of Arabia - the British Army officer renowned especially for his liaison role during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign and the Arab Revolt against Ottoman Turkish rule of 1916-18. While their relationship was never consummated, Srodes unveils compelling evidence that Sarah was Lawrence’s “S.A.” Told in riveting, narrative style, this will appeal to readers of Erik Larson and other historians.
