English Summary/英文概要： A Star Called Giant is the story of the children of a lower middle-class neighborhood in a big town; boys and girls with different names and dreams who end up becoming small stars in this story. What these small characters have in common is that they all want to see Reza the Giant. On the one hand these children are afraid of Reza, and on the other they don’t want to miss out on any chance to catch a glimpse of him.Reza the Giant is very tall and has a huge build with childish attitudes and feelings. Reza, who is also suffering from intellectual disability, has become a plaything in the hands of a street performer who has brought him along from his village to town and takes him to a different neighborhood each day for a sidewalk performance. Most of the narrative unfolds in the neighborhood where they live. In the late afternoons when they return home from their daily trips across town, residents of the neighborhood gather to feast their eyes on Reza the Giant. As the story progresses readers learn that Reza is not only not a scary creature but a helpful individual who helps the children of the story settle their problems and achieve their dreams.
That Mohammad Reza Yousefi received an accolade from the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) in 1998 for this book confirms the success it has pulled off in building good rapport with people of other cultures and speakers of other languages.
