English Summary/英文概要： THE AGE OF MAGIC takes us on a literal and metaphysical journey towards philosophical and personal understanding, encompassing Faust and Goethe, Art, History, Personality, Love, Poetry and Truth. At its heart sits a love story full of compassion, tenderness and sensuality, that of two people, Lao and Mistletoe, who have known each other long and so come to a true understanding of what it means to live side by side with one another in peace. They are part of a tight knit group travelling to Switzerland while making a television programme which is fronted by Lao. Personality and its influence are an underlying current of the book and the way the characters interact with each other is closely documented. Their arrival in a Swiss village surrounded by mountains mirrored in a lake widens the scope yet again to encompass Old Europe and its modernity, while the lovers go yet deeper as they venture into the Shakespearean, Bacchanalian realm of a local festival.
THE AGE OF MAGIC is part of the Arcadia cycle in that it pairs well with In Arcadia, (2002). Both are meditations on journeys and memory.

「我剛做了個夢，夢到我跟魔鬼聊天聊了好久。」吉姆說。
「真的？」勞歐回答。
「它告訴我該做什麼。」
「做什麼？」
「魔鬼一次只會告訴你下一步該怎麼走。」
「為什麼？」
吉姆比起親眼看，更能感覺到吉姆聳肩，他臉的輪廓出現凹陷與陰影。「我們的命運不是終點。」吉姆說，帶著一種詭異、預言式的笑聲。
「那它叫你做什麼？」
「什麼意思？」
「你說魔鬼告訴你該怎麼做。」

「做什麼？」

著有九本小說，曾於1991年獲頒英國布克獎。他曾任記者、廣播節目主持、詩編輯和倫敦國家劇院委員。英國皇家文學會的成員，曾獲大英帝國勳章及各項國際大獎，包括：義大利格林尚內卡渥（Premio Grinzane Cavour）文學獎、聯邦非洲作家獎(the Commonwealth Writers prize for Africa)、阿卡和小說獎(Aga Khan prize for fiction)。
Ben Okri is the author of nine novels, including The Famished Road trilogy and Starbook as well as several books of poems, essays and short stories. He won the Booker Prize for fiction in 1991. He has been a journalist, broadcaster, poetry editor, and a board member of the National Theatre, London. A fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, he has been awarded the OBE as well as numerous international prizes, including the Premio Grinzane Cavour, the Commonwealth Writers prize for Africa, the Paris Review Aga Khan prize for fiction, and the Premio Chianti Ruffino Antico Fattore.His latest collection of poems, Wild, is published by Random House.
