His most recent book was a collaboration with music legend Clive Davis, The Soundtrack of My Life (Simon & Schuster 2013). He has published several other titles including In Other Words: Artists Talk About Life and Work (Hal Leonard 2005), a collection of his interviews. He won a 1988 Grammy Award for his essay accompanying the Eric Clapton box set, Crossroads, and he has three times received the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award for excellence in writing about music. He edited Present Tense: Rock & Roll and Culture (Duke University 1992) and was co-editor of The Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock and Roll (Random House 1992) and The Rolling Stone Album Guide (Random House 1992). DeCurtis holds a Ph.D. in American literature from Indiana University and teaches in the writing program at the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in New York City.
