At long last, a book that organizes and simplifies the mysterious science of creating valid tests! Testing is such a critical part of the learning process. Without it, the instructor is flying blind. But no more blind than when they take upon themselves the task of creating a test, with little or no concept of what goes into creating valid Criterion-referenced tests. Dr.Fein has organized her work into an easy-to-understand sequence and has thoughtfully arranged the references after each chapter. The language is necessarily technical at times, but not to a level that the beginning test developer should have a hard time understanding it. This is a valuable addition to the bookshelf of anyone in the business of evaluating training - and preparing tests to determine the knowledge, skills and abilities that were learned by the student.

Melissa Fein, PhD, has graduate degrees in statistics, psychology, and economics, along with coaching certification, and first started working in the field of training evaluation in 1988. She began private consulting on industrial psychology/evaluation issues in 1996, and for a number of years was affiliated with the Maryland Assessment Research Center for Education Success (MARCES), at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she has taught a variety of courses in measurement, statistics, and evaluation.
