“Probably I`m Lost” is the first novel of Sara Salar. An instant favorite among readers in Tehran, the 16000 edition of the book flew over the shelves of book stores in less than a year having also won the praise of literary critics and awarded different prizes. Yet the novel’s success was halted by censorship and it is now banned from re-publication.
On the surface, the author tells the story of two women’s friendship from their first days as young teenage girls. One is the narrator whom we do not know by the name, the other her devoted friend, Gandom. Their bond dates back to their teenage years in Zahedan in south eastern Iran, each facing a different life journey: one always joyful and positive the other – the narrator- in constant struggle with her society’s norms and prohibitions.

She has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Tehran University. Probably I’m Lost hit the bookstore shelves in early 2009. In less than a year the novel was on its fourth reprint and sold more than 30,000 copies before being banned by authori?es. It won the Golshiri Literary Award and the top prize of Iranian Literature Today. German Publisher Kirchheim has commissioned the transla?on of the book into German and its Italian transla?on is expected to be released shortly. It took her more than two years to secure the official green-light for the publica?on of her second novel “Is It or Not” which finally came out earlier this year. In 1992 Sara Salar married Sorush Sehat, an Iranian actor, screenwriter and director.
