More than an irreverent joyride, The Love Monster is also a sweet and tender look at the pain and indignity of being an adult human and a sincere exploration of the very few available remedies: art, love, religion, relentless optimism, and alien intervention.

I very much enjoyed this novel. Full of imagination, Missy Marston has distinctive voice. Her style is poetic, witty, touching and insightful. Her short chapters make it ideal for commuters and those who like to consume her imagery in short chunks, savouring every moment, to make the experience last. One of the best novels I have read this year. It is astonishing that this is her first. The maturity of her writting is already evident and promises for the future. A very refreshing addition to the Canadian literary scene.
