Book ID/图书代码: 06830114B70819
English Summary/英文概要: And behind each statistical data point are millions of alarmed parents who can’t seem to get help from a medical profession that just stacks up the prescription slips. So many mothers and fathers wonder what preventative actions they can take to make certain that their children thrive and not fall into debilitating syndromes. In Brainmending: Change the Food, Change the Body, Change the Brain, pioneering integrative pediatric neurologist Maya Shetreat-Klein, M.D. offers hope and help for all parents. The problem and the solution are one in the same: the food kids eat.
Based on her extensive research and successful treatment of many hundreds of children by altering their diets, eliminating toxic additives and adding healthy probiotics, Dr. Shetreat-Klein has developed THE nutritional plan to keep today’s children healthy and thriving. It works and it is a plan that any family can implement and follow.
In the transformative tradition of Michael Pollan, Michael Moss and Dr. William Davis, Maya Shetreat-Klein is breaking new ground in our understanding of the profound connections between natural, unadulterated food and healthy minds and bodies. She will change how we view our children’s diets, and empower us to take control to choose the right foods and ensure the well-being and happiness of kids and the entire family. There is no book like this on the market. The audience for Brainmending is huge – it is for every parent and parent-to-be.
Dr. Shetreat-Klein’s discovery of this revolutionary diet started with her own child’s illness – at age one, out of nowhere, her son Erez suffered his first episode of asthma. Conventional drug treatment ensued, his condition worsening and his cognitive development seriously faltering. After ten terrifying months, Maya embarked on her own research and discovered that severe food allergies were at the root of Erez’s decline. A diet that eliminated soy oil (found in many snack foods, particularly those marketed to children) and mercury (used to process high fructose corn syrup), and emphasized naturally probiotic fermented foods, immune regulating herbs (turmeric, cinnamon) as well as brain-enhancing foods (egg yolks, fatty fish, milk, broccoli) turned the tide for Erez and restored him to health. The right prescription was simple: food. Heal the gut, heal the brain.
