Sandra Dounce was born in 1946. She has degrees in French and Student Personnel Work and has teaching certificates in Elementary Education and K-12 Instructional Technology in Pennsylvania. Her interests include working on an historic tall ship, arts and crafts, travel, reading, hiking, and quilting. She spent a semester in college on World Campus Afloat (semester at sea) where she visited 15 countries on three continents. She is married and has two grown daughters. After staying home with her children for 10 years, she went back to school to study computer science. Her volunteer experience working with children led her into a career teaching computer skills; first in grades K-8 in a Catholic school(11 years), then in a middle school (10 years). She believes we all need to be life-long learners. Teachers should be creative and make learning fun and relevant to the students’ futures. She taught students to use word processors, spreadsheets, databases, presentation tools, and the internet by collaborating with classroom teachers to design activities that integrated those skills into the classroom curriculum. In her book, Database Magic, users will find 16 curriculum-based databases with worksheets for all levels of learners. Since databases lend themselves to problem-solving activities, there are many activities that address the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiative.
