Jan Smits is professor of law at Maastricht University (the Netherlands) and at the University of Helsinki (Finland). He holds a PhD from Leiden University. His latest book is ’The Mind and Method of the Legal Academic’, in which he discusses the aims and methods of legal scholarship. Jan Smits was born and raised in Leiden (the Netherlands).
