English Summary/英文概要： Joe Benton’s boss, the charismatic Brooklyn congressman Zack Powers, is much too busy for a complimentary cruise, so he gives the tickets to Joe, who hopes to use the downtime to figure out what to do about his failing marriage. But once the Queen of the Seas sets sail, she becomes the scene of what appears to be a terrorist attack or maybe an E-coli epidemic caused by inept food handling. Whichever it is, during the ill-fated voyage, Joe falls in love with Melody, high priestess of an obscure northern California religious sect that worships a deity from another galaxy and eagerly awaits his return to Planet Earth.

So begins a droll satire that takes a juicy bite out of all of America s paranoid delusions and most sacred cows: Military war hawks, the bunglers at the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, ATF, CIA, and all the other alphabet noodles that foster our fantasies of safety; shady politicians and the dubious culture that has given rise to New-Age churches and Native American casinos are mercilessly masticated, and not even true love can escape without some teeth marks.

JOHN FREMONT is a novelist, playwright, screenwriter, publisher, political activist, and columnist, and has taught American literature and creative writing at colleges and universities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Cofounder of the Mendocino Festival of Books and the Mendocino chapter of Amnesty International, John has for nineteen years been the senior and consulting editor for Cypress House, an independently owned publishing company in Fort Bragg, California. Comedy of Terror is his third novel.
