About the Author/作者介绍: Christine Anne Royce has been exploring the connections between science and reading as well as the use of trade books in the science classroom since 1990 when she began teaching. Since that point she has gathered together a collection of nearly 800 trade books that can be used to teach science. This collection includes both fiction and non fiction books and focus on grades K-6. Taught to love reading since she was a young girl, she has always enjoyed a good book - whether it’s a children’s trade book that allows her to get lost in the illustrations, text and information or a good crime drama or piece of historical fiction that she reads for pleasure.

Each of her works focus on the practice of integrating quality children’s literature and science investigations to engage students in both science and reading. Her early books with co-author David Wiley examined inquiry based activities that could be enhanced through the use of trade books, where as her newest work with co-authors Karen Ansberry and Emily Morgan integrate the use of the trade book in the actual activity.

As a professor of science education at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania, she works with preservice and inservice teachers in the areas of science methods, research design, and assessment among others. She herself examined the use of trade books in place of or in conjunction with textbooks at the third grade level to determine students understanding of and attitudes toward science as her dissertation topic which she completed at Temple University in Philadelphia.
