ANIMAL COLORATION: ACTIVITIES ON THE EVOLUTION OF CONCEALMENT
A classic resource for teachers is now back in an updated edition! Using an inductive and experimental approach, "Animal Coloration," claims to increase students’ awareness of the ways wild organisms are adapted to their environments. Each of the activities provides an opportunity to incorporate National Science Education Content Standards, including science and inquiry, life science, and history and nature of science. Also new to this edition is a table summarizing each activity with learning outcomes and relevant content standards. Originally published in 1966 by the Regents of the University of California, this book was difficult to find for far too long (worn copies are a cherished part of many teachers’ libraries). NSTA Press is especially proud to bring this teaching resource to a new generation of teachers and to update the book for its long-time admirers.
(LNL)
Awesome Animal Activities! I purchased "Animal Coloration: Activities on the Evolution of Concealment" to work some of the activities into my biology and environmental science courses. It proves to be very useful in studying animal adaptations. However, a bonus is that some of the activities will be fun and interesting for our middle school students, for whom my 11th & 12th graders conduct peer-teaching lessons. This book will also be a valuable addition to my science-teaching resources, which are used in conjunction with the university courses I teach for pre- and in-service teachers. --Sue Ellen Lyons (New Orleans, LA) on July 15, 2008
