Lynne Murray is currently Professor of Developmental Psychology at the University of Reading and is Professor Extra-ordinary at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Before this, she studied at Edinburgh University, and was a Research Fellow at Cambridge. Her research, principally funded by the Medical Research Council (UK), has focused on how social relationships influence child development. She has a particular interest in young children’s development in the presence of difficult circumstances, for example where mothers are depressed or anxious, where the child has a cleft lip, or where families live in conditions of economic hardship. She has also carried out research on how child development may be helped by supporting parents’ understanding and communication with their child. She is the author of THE SOCIAL BABY, and has published almost 200 journal articles and book chapters.
