In this groundbreaking study, Alexander Beecroft develops a new way of thinking about world literature. Drawing on a series of examples and case studies, the book ranges from ancient epic to the contemporary fiction of Roberto Bolaño and Amitav Ghosh. Beecroft identifies a series of literary ecologies, from small-scale societies to the planet as a whole, within which literary texts are produced and circulated. An Ecology of World Literature places in dialogue scholarship on ancient and modern, western and non-western texts, producing new and unexpected demands for literary study.

About the Author/作者介绍： 亞歷山大．比夸夫特為南卡羅來納州大學(University of South Carolina)古典與比較文學助理教授。他發表作品廣泛，從古希臘、中國的著述，到世界文學的理論；從十九世紀文學史的出現作為一種學科，到加拿大文學的初始。他的第一本著作《早期希臘與中國的作者與文化特性：文學傳播模式》(Authorship and Cultural Identity in Early Greece and China: Patterns of literary circulation)由劍橋大學出版社出版。

Alexander Beecroft is an Associate Professor of Classics and Comparative Literature at the University of South Carolina. He has published extensively on topics ranging from authorship in ancient Greece and China, to theories of world literature, from the emergence of literary history as a discipline in the nineteenth century, to the origins of Canadian literature. His first book, Authorship and Cultural Identity in Early Greece and China, was published by Cambridge University Press.
