To create a lodge that is safe from predators, a beaver family dams a stream; a lake forms and the beavers build their lodge in the lake, with an underwater entrance and living chambers above the waterline. This is advanced engineering, and the principle of damming waterways has, of course, since been copied by humans. There are many other examples of science being used by animals long before humans adopted similar procedures.
