Jack Dash never wanted to move in the first place - not that his parents ever listen to him. All they seem to care about is getting the house ready for the Big Visit from Mr Quibble, his dad’s new boss and the town of Curtly Ambrose’s fantastically corrupt mayor. He’s also having trouble with his new neighbour, Coco McBean. She’s impetuous, infuriating, omnipresent and just won’t take no for an answer.
When Jack finds a golden quill in an old desk, he discovers that whatever he draws with it come to life. He could have anything he likes! He starts with a toy racing-car, which turns out to be big enough to drive (if only he’d remembered to draw an engine). When Coco starts poking her nose in, he draws a guard dog to keep her out and ends up with Sardina, a sea-lion with a bladder problem. He draws a vat of fish to keep her quiet, but they soon begin to stink the house out and his parents make an emergency appointment with the Pest Controllers. If Jack doesn’t hide the evidence fast, his secret will be discovered. Reluctantly, he enlists Coco’s help.
Chaos spirals into disaster. Coco drops the car and half a ton of rotting fish out of Jack’s bedroom window; the Pest Controllers arrive and Sardina goes missing. In the midst of it all, Mayor Quibble arrives and quickly sees that something of Jack’s is the key to untold riches. Mistakenly taking Sardina for the golden goose, Quibble resolves to steal her for his own nefarious purposes. Jack and Coco must bury their differences and act fast in order to save Sardina and foil the dastardly Quibble, but just when he needs it most, he loses the feather. Time is short: Jack must choose between saving Sardina and getting his magic feather back.
JACK DASH is the first in a planned series of adventures featuring Jack Dash and Coco McBean. The sequel, JACK DASH AND THE SUMMER BLIZZARD is broadly about making friends and the anxiety of starting at a new school and features a flock of 118 anarchic penguins, courtesy of a magic feather drawing getting lost in the school photocopier, and a tippex-induced blizzard at the school summer fair.

About the Author/作者介绍： 苏菲•普洛登曾经在爱丁堡艺术学院研究素描和油画。她一边已广泛展出自绘画，一边会在初高中兼职教授艺术的工作并且同时进行创作写作。她举办过大型的展览，包括在伦敦的六场一个人的展览。她和她的丈夫还有一个十一岁的儿子住在伊斯林顿区。《杰克•达什和魔幻羽毛》是她的第一本书。
Sophie Plowden studied Drawing & Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. As well as writing, she paints and teaches art part-time in both secondary and higher education. She has exhibited her work widely, including six one-person shows in London. She lives in Islington with her husband and her eleven year old son. Jack Dash and the Magic Feather is her first book.
