He is also a man with a mission: to replace his unsightly teeth. Despite his distinguished pedigree – he counts among his uncles Marcelo Sánchez Proust and Michel Sánchez Foucault – Highway’s many qualities and talents have passed unnoticed during his early years, perhaps because of his self-confessed discretion. But his fortunes change when he studies auctioneering with Grandmaster Oklahoma and the famous country singer and auctioneer Leroy Van Dyke. Highway travels the world, amassing his collection of “Collectibles” and perfecting his own specialty: the allegoric auction. Among his fascinating adventures, our hero, a man who will inevitably win the hearts of readers, conducts a fund-raising auction of the jewel of his Collectibles, a collection of teeth belonging to the “notorious infamous”: Plato, Petrarch, Chesterton, Virginia Woolf et al.

Valeria Luiselli was born in Mexico City in 1983, she published a book of personal essays entitled PAPELES FALSOS (FAKE PAPERS) in 2010 and her work has been published in magazines and newspapers such as Letras Libres and the New York Times. She has also written ballet librettos for the New York City Ballet and is currently studying for a PhD in Comparative Literature at Columbia University. Her first novel, LOS INGRAVIDOS (FACES IN THE CROWD) was published by Sexto Piso in April 2011 and in the UK by Granta in May 2012. Rights are sold to Coffee House Press in the US; Objetiva in Brazil; Actes Sud in France; Uitgeverij Karaat in Holland; Miskal in Israel; La Nuova Frontiera in Italy and Bertrand in Portugal.
