About the Author/作者介绍： 英國布裏斯托大學（University of Bristol）歷史系教授，是目前英國學界中國近現代史研究領域的頭號人物。BICKERS教授常年從事東亞和殖民地史的研究，尤其是大英帝國與中國的關係史，例如外國人從1843到1950年在上海的社會史。
他曾以"在中國的英國人"為側重點，從英國的外交官在中國、英國的傳教士在中國和英國的殖民者在中國三個方面考察了中英近代以來的關係，曾著有《英國人在中國：社區、文化和殖民主義，1900-1949》(Britain in China: Community, Culture and Colonialism, 1900-49)、《帝國造就了我》(EMPIRE MADE ME)等著作，論文《誰是上海的巡捕，為什麼他們會在哪兒？》、《改變上海的"頭腦"：廣告業的改革與在上海的英國人，1927-1931》等。
